Spring clean up and support AACL at the same time
ACLF (Alberta Community Living Foundation) was formed as the fundraising arm of AACL. Each year we must raise more than one million dollars to provide support to the thousands of families who annually seek our assistance.
AACL has experienced a reduction in the funding it receives from various government departments due to Alberta's economic challenges. At the same time we are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of families and individuals with developmental disabilities approaching AACL for assistance. For the first time in decades we now have a waiting list of families needing assistance and this is growing daily
Most of our funding comes from the sale of recyclable clothing, household items and small appliances donated to ACLF. We pick up your donations free of charge, and sell them to Value Village. The funding we receive enables us to fulfill our mandate on behalf of people with developmental disabilities and their families.
Value Village and Why We Sell To Them
Value Village is a for profit retailing expert that has revolutionized the “thrift” industry. While they enjoy growing profits, Value Village understands that social and corporate responsibility is necessary to be truly successful. Therefore, all goods sold by Value Village and Savers stores are purchased from charitable organizations, such as AACL.
Strict screening of potential charities is undertaken by Value Village to ensure that the organizations meet standards of ethics and that all have mandates which help to improve the communities that support them.
Those charities, which are fortunate enough to be associated with Value Village, are assured that the goods collected will provide them with the maximum dollars available in the used goods market. Virtually no organization, which retails their own donations, can reap the same dollars from the same goods as those who sell to Value Village. Why? Because Value Village assumes the risk of selling the items, paying for store space, staffing their stores and all other responsibilities involved in running retail outlets. Their retailing expertise allows them to do this, plus pay extremely well for the goods they receive and still ensure their profits.
What does this mean to the donor? It simply means that the clothing and household items you donate to AACL raises more money for charity than if you were to donate to an organization that retails those goods itself.
